Spiritual Places

HOME / Visiting Trieste /

Ever since Charles VI of Austria declared the town a Free Port in 1719 (thereby fostering traffic and trade that would attract various populations), freedom of worship in the town, ratified by an Edict of Tolerance issued by Joseph II, has become a natural consequence and, since the 18th century, the town has shown that cohabitation of different religions in the name of reciprocal respect is possible.

The town can be enjoyed in an intimate and private dimension, the spiritual dimension, in a variety of places of worship:

- Catholic churches
- Orthodox Christian churches
- Evangelical Christian churches
- The Synagogue
