Useful information
The Regional tourist office, Turismo Friuli Venezia Giulia (www.turismofvg.it), is situated in the town centre and provides informative material, maps and guides.
You can book guided tours, find a hotel and all the information you may need.
The office can be reached on a free-call phone number: 800 016044
Airplane
The airport serving the region is Ronchi dei Legionari (www.aeroporto.fvg.it), situated about 35 km from the town centre.
Paid parking is available.
Connections to and from the town:
- APT Bus number 51 (www.aptgorizia.it)
- Taxi service, from 8.00 to 24.00
- Car rental: Hertz (www.hertz.com) and Europcar (www.europcar.com)
Train
Trenitalia (www.trenitalia.it) has frequent trains from Venice (Venezia Mestre station), a two-hour journey, and from Udine, 1 hour 30 minutes.
There are direct trains from Milan and Turin (no need to change at Venice).
Coach
This is the least used means of transport. There are some coach services from Croatia to Friuli Venezia Giulia that stop in Trieste.
The coach companies offering these services are: Eurolines Italia (www.eurolines.it), (departures from Venezia Mestre, Naples, Rome, Florence); Sita (departures from Rome); La Valle (departures from Southern Italy).
Car
The quickest way to reach Trieste from Western Italy is the A4 Torino-Trieste motorway.
Take the Trieste Lisert exit and proceed for about 20 kilometres to the town centre, passing along the road above the gulf, with exits for Gabrovizza, Prosecco-Trieste Centro-Opicina, Fernetti, Trebiciano, and Padriciano.
An alternative to the motorway is the SS14, which connects Venezia Mestre and Trieste (about 150 km).
